Pilgrims

Joining Pilgrims’

We’re always open to boys joining at any point to suit your family, subject to places being available.

For those whose schools finish at the end of Year 6, we’d be very happy to have a conversation about how Pilgrims’ can bridge the gap to a senior school with the best preparation for scholarshipsthe ISEB or Common Entrance exams. Boys also join for a boarding experience before going on to board at senior school.

Choral scholars for Winchester Cathedral Choir and Winchester College Chapel Choir, join in Year 4 and Year 5. Other entry points may be available.

COME AND VISIT US

Nothing beats a visit to get to know us, so we have regular Open Mornings or you can book an individual tour any Tuesday in term time.

Boys will show you around and you’ll get to see the school in action. You’ll find out why Pilgrims’ is so special and meet the Headmaster, Tim Butcher.

On an Open Morning, you’ll have the chance to visit the Winchester College Sports Centre, used regularly by the boys, and if you’re interested in boarding, you can meet the Boarding Housemaster and have a tour of the boarding houses.

Contact our Registrar, Emma, or simply sign up for our next Open Morning and the admissions team will be in touch with further details.

Pupils who wish to apply for Winchester College can be assessed for a place while they’re with us. We prepare them fully for entrance exams, offer earlier assessments, followed by earlier offers for boys already here and for those coming to Pilgrims’ for Years 7 and 8 with a view to going  on to Winchester College. Bursaries can also be applied for at this time. Please see the link below for further details.

WHAT IS A TASTER DAY?

Most people start with a visit to the school where one of our boys will act as guide, usually on a Tuesday. That’s followed by a taster day where your son comes to Pilgrims’ for a day. Your son will go to lessons, get to know other boys, have lunch and enjoy break times. Age-appropriate activities and assessments are done then too. We’ll then have a chat, give you feedback and answer any more questions you might have before you collect your son.

Offers are made in writing soon after. Your place is confirmed upon receipt of a completed contract and acceptance deposit and subject to a confidential reference from your current school.

WHAT ABOUT BOARDING?

Boarding at The Pilgrims’ School is a truly enriching experience with a great sense of fun and community. It’s also a chance to test drive boarding in a small, nurturing environment before going to larger senior school. Our boarding starts from Year 4.

If your son would like to join as a boarder, you can arrange a visit for a detailed tour of the boarding house with the Head of Boarding, wholl explain the daily boarding routine and describe the activities and fun excursions which take place in the evenings and every weekend. Your son will be looked after for the day by a current boarder, who will give him lots more information about boarding at Pilgrims’. Please note, we are unable to offer an overnight stay to boys who are not currently at the school.
