ART & DESIGN

The Pre-Prep is a creative environment where boys are encouraged to explore, experiment and express themselves through art. From Reception onwards, children are given opportunities to work with a wide range of materials, tools and techniques, developing confidence in their own creative ideas and learning to see the world with curiosity and imagination.

Alongside painting, drawing, sculpture and model-making, boys are introduced to practical design and woodwork experiences where they learn to safely use real tools, build structures and bring their ideas to life. These hands-on opportunities help to develop resilience, creativity, fine motor skills and a strong sense of achievement.

We value the creative process as much as the finished outcome, encouraging boys to take risks, problem-solve and talk about their thinking as they create. Art is often inspired by nature, stories, seasonal changes and cross-curricular learning, with many opportunities to create both indoors and outdoors. Boys are also encouraged to reflect thoughtfully on their own work and celebrate the ideas and achievements of others within our supportive and collaborative environment.

DRAMA

Imaginative play and storytelling are woven throughout life in the Pre-Prep, helping boys develop confidence, communication skills and creativity. We believe children’s imaginations flourish best when given open-ended opportunities to create, collaborate and lead their own play experiences. Rather than directing role play through fixed themes or spaces, we provide flexible resources and inspiring environments that allow boys to transform spaces through their own ideas, interests and narratives.

Through storytelling, small world play, performance opportunities and collaborative learning experiences, boys develop empathy, self-expression and social understanding while building confidence in speaking and listening.

A highlight of the year is the Pre-Prep Nativity performance at Christmas, where the boys delight audiences with their enthusiasm, confidence and sense of joy as they perform together.

School Life

Boys thrive on being busy. They like structure and they like routine. We make sure your Pilgrim makes the most of his school day, whether in Pre-Prep or Prep, day boy or boarder, Chorister or Quirister.
